What is projector stacking and why would I do it?

Projection Techniques and Applications

Projector stacking means aiming multiple projectors at the same screen to produce the same image from the same position. The projectors are physically stacked on top of each other or placed side by side. Stacking accomplishes two things: it adds brightness (the combined lumen output of all stacked projectors) and it creates a live backup. If one projector fails, the remaining units keep the image on screen at reduced brightness rather than going to black.

Stacking almost always requires warping or geometry correction to precisely align the overlapping images pixel-for-pixel.
