What are personnel lifts and when are they used in rigging?

Lifts, Pipe & Other Rigging Equipment

Personnel lifts (also called man lifts, Genies, or aerial work platforms) are motorized platforms that elevate crew members to work at height. In event production, they're used for focusing lighting fixtures, running cable, making rigging connections, installing scenic elements, and any task that requires safe access to overhead positions.

Common types include vertical mast lifts (compact, indoor-rated, suitable for flat floors) and scissor lifts (larger platform, higher capacity). The choice depends on the required working height, the venue's floor conditions, and doorway/access restrictions. 4Wall carries Genie and other lift brands as part of its rigging rental inventory. All lift operators should be trained on safe operation before use.
