What are uplights and when should I use them?

Conventional Fixtures and LEDs

Uplights are compact LED fixtures placed on the floor and aimed upward at walls, columns, draping, or architectural features. They wash surfaces with color, transforming the look and feel of a room without any rigging or overhead infrastructure. Uplighting is one of the most cost-effective ways to add production value to an event.

Battery-powered wireless uplights have become especially popular because they eliminate the need for power cables running across floors, which simplifies setup and improves safety. They're standard at corporate galas, weddings, cocktail receptions, and any event where the venue walls need to match a brand color or event theme. Many battery uplights now support wireless DMX control, so they can be color-matched and programmed from a console without running any cables at all.
