What is ETCP certification?

Rigging Hardware & Safety

ETCP (Entertainment Technician Certification Program) is an industry-recognized certification administered by the IATSE-aligned organization that validates a rigger's knowledge. ETCP offers two rigging certifications: Arena Rigging and Theatrical Rigging, each tailored to the specific equipment, techniques, and environments of those disciplines.

Many venues, production companies, and general contractors require ETCP certification as a minimum qualification for riggers working on their shows. The certification process includes a written exam covering rigging math, safety standards (ANSI, OSHA), hardware knowledge, and practical scenarios. ETCP certification demonstrates that a rigger has been tested against an industry-standard body of knowledge. It does not replace on-the-job experience, but it's widely recognized as a baseline professional credential.
